Swimming Lessons Group Definitions

Hi there. We hope this will be helpful in your selection of groups for this summer’s swimming lessons.

It’s not a hardfast rule…this is solely a guideline….we find the group learning dynamics to be most effective if most of the swimmers in the group start out with a similar baseline of skills….from there, the learning and “adaptation to new skills” varies from swimmer to swimmer.

Admittedly, we are so very pleased with the kids progressions from session-to-session and week-to-week. With our instruction, demonstration, guidance, filming, convincing (lol) the development of each swimmer can range immensely. Unlike City programs, each swimmer is active throughout the entire session. In a group of 5-8, they are ALL active throughout the entire session. We have been told that in City programs, one swimmer swims, while 7 swimmers sit on the deck and watch….not here!

PARENT & TOT:   6 MONTHS to 3 YEARS OLD

In these sessions one of the parents is in the water with their child. Diane is in the water with you and offers a range of skills and techniques to the parents  providing guidance on what is best for adjustment to the water, or going underwater, and above all, teaching safety to the swimmers and parents!

BRONZE - BEGINNER:    LEVEL ONE: 3-6 YEARS OLD

These swimmers are brand new to swimming. Typically, they are comfortable in the water, but realistically, cannot swim across our 16 foot pool. Swimmers should be eager to learn. We have a variety of teaching and flotation aids to assist. Diane is actively in the water working with all the swimmers

BRONZE - BEGINNER:    LEVEL TWO: 3-6 YEARS OLD

These swimmers are newer to swimming, but perhaps had previous City lessons or lessons with us in 2021. Typically, these swimmers will have front/back skills. Ready to learn front crawl, back crawl and deep water swimming. Swimmers should be eager to learn.  Diane is actively in the water working with all the swimmers

4-6 YEAR OLD

This group is designed for kids who are able to have lessons with a younger group of peers of like age who will learn a bit slower than the older kids due to their physical development. This group will have a maximum of 6 in the group. Diane is actively in the water working with the swimmers. While we call it 4-6 year old, swimmers can be a good 3 year old or a newer 7 year old.

SILVER - ADVANCED 6 YEARS OLD AND OVER

This is a bit of a wild-card group, ranging in age from 6-12 years old. Swimmers typically can swim at least 2 lengths of the pool. Swimmers should also be comfortable in deep (8’) water. In this group, we will teach freestyle, backstroke, breastroke and diving/jumping off the diving board. Emphasis will also be on endurance while developing good technique. Coach Snow works with this group and other than emergencies and demonstration, coaching is done from the deck, so the swimmers will need to have confidence in the water!

GOLD!

This group is typically from 8-14 years old. Swimmers can swim at least 4 lengths of the pool and can also swim freestyle and perhaps breastroke and backstroke. All four strokes are taught, including butterfly, and special emphasis on streamlining, stroke efficiency and diving is included. Some sessions will include above and underwater video analysis. Coach Snow works with this group and other than emergencies and demonstration, coaching is done from the deck so the swimmers will need to have confidence in the water! These sessions are also available for competitive swimmers video stroke analysis

ADULT - BEGINNER

This group is fun. Typically you are new to swimming. You need to be somewhat comfortable in the pool, but unable to swim the length of our pool, which is 30’. Diane will be in the water with you, guiding you all the way….in 2021, several of our new adults progressed from Nervous Nellies (afraid to put their face in the water)….to jumping off the diving board within a couple of weeks!

ADULT - INTERMEDIATE

This group perhaps swim with us in 2021 or have some good skills in the water already. This group can swim at least 1 length of the 30 foot pool. Looking to learn more skills, more endurance, and perhaps a new stroke like backstroke or breastroke.
