Coach Diane Lego

I remember learning to swim when I was young, probably around 6 years of age. I was a skinny, shy little girl who got very cold and was afraid of the water. I think that has always been at the back of my mind when I work with beginner swimmers and can understand their fears and apprehension around the water.

I started teaching swimming when I was 16 and have had a love of sharing this wonderful sport since then. I had the opportunity to swim competitively, play water polo at University as well as I took diving lessons and even learned a lot about synchronized swimming. Being in, on or around the water gives me great joy and I believe that learning to swim is a life skill that everyone must have the opportunity to learn.

I have coached both summer swimming, in British Columbia where I am from, as well as winter swimming both in BC as well as here in Ontario where I started coaching with the Pickering Swim Club in Sept. 2020. I have always worked with development swimmers as that has been my forte and I enjoy seeing a young swimmer learn the basics and move on to become an experienced and disciplined swimmer and reach their potential. Many swimmers I have trained have gone on to pursue Life guarding, swim coaching as well as teaching swimming.

I have 2 grown sons who also swam and played water polo while they were growing up and became coaches in both disciplines which helped pay their way through University.

I am looking forward to working with my partner Jim in offering an amazing swim program for all ages in our backyard pool.
